About Kettering Allotments

Kettering Allotments Limited was formed in 1917 and is registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 and Friendly and Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1968 (Company registration 6160R). The legislation is now covered by the  Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. We have to send our audited accounts to the the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). Our accounts are audited annually by a chartered accountant and presented at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). See this link for more information.

Members of the association are those individuals who have rented an allotment plot and paid their membership fees and rent. Members agree to the rules of the association. Disciplinary procedures are laid down if the rules are broken.(click for link)

Kettering Allotment Society manages four sites in the town at Margaret Road, Scott Road, Northfield Avenue and Windmill Avenue. Other allotments in and around Kettering are managed by different organisations. Locations of our 4 sites

We are managed by an elected management committee. All members of the association may vote at the AGM. Committee members serve for two years and are elected at the AGM. The AGM also appoints the secretary and treasurer. The committee chooses its chairman/chairwoman by election in the first meeting following the AGM.

The management committee appoints field stewards to serve the day-to-day management needs of the different allotment fields in Kettering. More information on the role of field stewards is found on a different page of this website. (click here for link).

Our land is owned by Kettering Town Council (KTC). Kettering Allotments has a lease for our four sites and pays rent to KTC. KTC plays no role in day-to-day management of allotments, as it has negotiated these leases with us. If a member of the association has a problem on their allotment, they should see their field steward and then follow procedures within our democratic organisation rather than complain to KTC.  See complaints
